The Local Lime Industry
“There was good lime up here, but there was a lot of stripping before you got to the Lime. And then they went to Ballintoy where the Lime was just on the ground, there was no stripping it. It was a lot easier worked down there. […] Every Sunday [it] was put in the Kills, and the Lime would be burnt for the men coming on a Monday morning. And then that was carted out and spread in different places. When it came to spring, it was a busy time carting it all over.”
