1924 Fire

Northern Whig 09/12/1924

BALLYCASTLE FIRE

Well-known Bakery Burned Down

The well-known establishment of Mr Alexander Boyd, Castle Street, Ballycastle, was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of yesterday.

The alarm was raised by B Specials on patrol, and the fire hose was secured, and willing hands concentrated on confining the flames to the building, which was doomed.

The business premises and residence of Mr. Boyd adjoining the bakery were fortunately saved.

A short time ago Mr. Boyd installed new machinery at a cost of over £400, and this was destroyed, as well as large quantities of flour.

The damage is estimated at well over £1,000. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Also reported in Ballymena Observer 12/12/1924.
