This poem, written by Private William McKay to his mother, appeared in the pages of the Northern Constitution. William McKay, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, aged 19, was killed in action on the 25th February 1915. Mrs McKay was to suffer another loss before the war ended when William’s brother, James, was killed in action on the 10th August 1917.
