Highlighting the best of our Borough from the first 100 years of Northern Ireland, the Famous Sons and Daughters project celebrates the lives of our high achievers.

We invited members of the public to nominate individuals who they considered were worthy of recognition. The only criteria was that the nominee had to have been alive within the first 100 years of Northern Ireland, and have been born, or lived, in the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough area.  The Council would like to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of all those nominated.

The Council is aware that opportunities have not always existed to allow all members of society to contribute equally or have their achievements formally recognised. Given the 100-year timeframe of the project, the list does not reflect the demographics of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough today. Due to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), only those living nominees who agreed to have their names publicised have been included above.

The Council’s NI100 Working Group, supported by a range of local historians, identified a shortlist of 100 nominees to showcase the range of talents within the borough. The online showcase of the shortlisted sons and daughters can be found HERE, or accessed and downloaded from the RESOURCES page.
