Discrimination to GenocideHolocaust Memorial Day
6th April 2026
Causeway Coast & Glens Museum Services, in partnership with Binevenagh Historical Society, curated an exhibition in Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2026. The exhibition was launched on the 27th January by the Mayor of Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council, Councillor Oliver McMullan.
A supporting booklet, Discrimination to Genocide, was produced as part of the project, which was supported by The Executive Office, through the District Council Good Relations Programme. A reprint of Steven Callaghan’s short story CANADA: A tale of a boy who lived during The Holocaust also formed part of the overall project.
Andy Warmington delivered a moving talk entitled Out of Vienna – The Story of the Kesslers about his grandmother Gertrude’s family during the Second World War. He told a story of a family torn apart by the forces of fascism and how they faced it with bravery and resilience. Andy’s talk coincided with the launch of Mark Scott’s new book Transport No.4 – Vienna 1941 which tells the story of Gertrude Kessler and her younger brother Fritz who found sanctuary in Northern Ireland.
Project workshops have been delivered to local schools and community groups. These can be book by emailing museums@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk
