WELCOME TO THE BALLYMONEY TOWN HERITAGE PROJECT

Ballymoney u3a has a group of members who meet regularly to study their family histories and explore the heritage of Ballymoney and district.

Inspired by the late Dr Bill Macafee’s webpage (billmacafee.com) and his research on Church Street, Ballymoney, our u3a researchers have continued to study the histories of Church St, Main St, High St and Victoria St. Data has been gathered from valuation records, maps, photographs and interviews with local people to identify the locations and fond memories of businesses and shops in Ballymoney.

We have been supported by funding from the Ballymoney Townscape Heritage Initiative and Building Communities Resource Centre (BCRC) as well as guidance from the Museum Service of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council who have allowed us to collate our data on their niarchive.org website, thus allowing these fascinating discoveries to be shared across the world.

Over the decades, the properties in Ballymoney town centre have changed hands many times and some have also been renumbered which can cause confusion for researchers trying to find a particular address. To overcome these problems, the data posted will provide essential information to trace each property and attempt to show any variations in numbering. Photographs, both historical and recent, are added to illustrate the changing face of the town.
