Victorian wooden writing box, with brass inlaid decorations. There is a griffon on the front of the box with the name 'Miss Mc.Burney.' This box belonged to Miss Jane McBurney, she received it when she was 21 years of age (born 1806 and 21 in 1827) The box opens to the front revealing a green leather decorative writing surface and compartments for ink pots and other materials to top. There is a secret compartment underneath the leather writing surface. This box was given to Reverand J.A. Canning by the members of his Bible class on January 1853.(HP - where did this last peice of info come from 05.01.10)
