Man playing tin whistle with expanded end piece. (JM - Simon O'Doherty, who played at the hiring fair in Coleraine on a Saturday and was heard again in Bushmills the following Monday. The funnel on the whistle was his own invention and amplified the sound for busking. Belfast Public Library scrapbook page 1 has an articlecalled 'The Fluter at the Fiar' from 1933, establishing the day he played and that, though he lived in Connemara, he was a grandson of Simon O'Doherty, a piper from Letterkenny. Likely was a member of the 'Simey' Dohertys who last century (?20th) produced the notables Johnny, Mickey and Simon - all, especially the first, recorded by the BBC, RTE and others)
