Transcript of The Old Spinning Mill by Isabel Steele on the occasion of the mill closing, Feburary 1959 (page 1) Come walk with me down memory lane Past the bridge into Balnamore Past the friendly little houses Where the old folks did many a chore We'll walk past the shops and the fountain And then will stand quite still And feast our eyes upon the sight Of the dear old Spinning Mill Way back in the nineteenth Century And half way through this one The mill wheels kept a-turning From dawn will set of sun Can we see again the ruffing shop Where many a man did toil Johnny Shiels and Albert Beckett Dan McNabb and Danny Boyle Can we think once more of the Carding room Where many a bobbin was filled And of the dear old foreman Tom Slater, we remember him still As we recall the Spinning Room We can almost feel the heat And see again Willie McClelland Who was always on the beat The doffing mistress watched all the machines She was ever on the go And when the bobbins were filled with yarn You
