The Burial of McKinley painted by J W Carey. President McKinley of the USA was assassinated in 1901 and a McKinley Exhibition was held at St. Louis in 1904. J.W. Carey was commissioned to paint three pictures for the Exhibition by F J Bigger. 1. The Burning of the McKinley Home; 2. The Execution of Francis McKinley at Coleraine. 3. The Burial of McKinley at night in Derrykeighan Churchyard, Co. Antrim. McKinley was hanged on a tree in front of St. Patrick's Church, Church Street, Coleraine for being a suspected United Irishman. His wife obtained his body and he was buried at night at Derrykeighan since she did not want any fuss. William McKinley, 25th President of the USA was a relation. (Francis McKinley's Uncle James was the great-great-grandfather of President McKinley). The frame was made in the Irish Home Industries Workshop, Ballycastle. Courtesy of Ballycastle Museum.
