The Execution of Francis McKinley. The Execution of Francis McKinley of Dervock at Coleraine 24th June, 1798. McKinley was hanged on a tree in front of St. Patrick's Church, Church Street, Coleraine for being a United Irishman. President McKinley of the USA, a relative of Francis ( Francis McKinley's Uncle James was the great-great-grandfather of President McKinley), was assassinated in 1901 and a McKinley Exhibition was held at St. Louis in 1904. J.W. Carey was commissioned to paint three pictures for the Exhibition by F J Bigger. 1. The Burning of the McKinley Home; 2. The Execution of Francis McKinley at Coleraine. 3. The Burial of McKinley at night in Derrykeighan Churchyard, Co. Antrim. The frame was made in the Irish Home Industries Workshop, Ballycastle. Courtesy of Ballycastle Museum.
