Letter from W. F. Marshall commenting on the meaning of the word "wassel". Marshall believes it was probably used in Ulster in the Scots districts but that it has been obsolete for some time. He believes that the word originated from old French where it was cake or bread. He asks Sam if he knows why shortbread came to be used in the Presbyterian Communion rather than everyday bread.
