Handwritten letter in pencil from James to his mother. Glad to get notepad as have to use rifle but to write letters on. Does not need any more socks. Staying in barn with rats - used bayonet on them. Sending card with letter.Talks of home - likes to get newspaper and sees there is Coleraine Roll of Honour and thinks lots will join [enlist] at the fair.
