Shepherd’s Bothy

Shepherd’s Bothy

Remains of a Shepherd’s bothy on the Mc Henry Farm in Ballintoy Demesne.

Sheep farming was first introduced into the area by local landlords, the Stewart Family, during the era of improvement. Maurice Mc Henry’s father bought this farm in the 1930s, and Maurice inherited in 1970. Maurice’s wife Marie (nee Mc Lister) is from a sheep farming family at Torr Head and has always kept the farm going while Maurice focused on his teaching career.
