ACCESSIBLE MUSEUMS

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Museum Services are always trying to improve accessibility to our museum venues. The museum service is JAM Card friendly and our staff have also received training in the following areas:

  • visual impairment awareness
  • autism awareness
  • dementia awareness
  • JAM card awareness

Museum Services’ Accessible Museums programme is designed to allow people with additional needs from across the borough to engage with our museums and collections through partnered projects, facilitated visits, and object handling workshops.

The programme follows on from the two successful Accessible Heritage projects delivered through PEACE IV Understanding Our Area which gave a voice to people living with visual impairment, physical disability and/or learning difficulties.

We aim to give visitors and participants the time and support required to negotiate their past and allow them to express and share the way they experience and understand their own local history.

If you or your group have specific requirements or additional needs, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a facilitated museum visit. Support may also be available for groups with additional needs wishing to undertake heritage based projects across the borough.
