Eimear Friers – I wanted to make a box which celebrated the interesting history of this site, a burial ground from 1244-1530 when it was developed into commercial premises, recently occupied by a wedding shop and now a butchers I based my designs on Russian dolls which open to reveal smaller and smaller versions of themselves. I stained and hand painted each box, my intention was that they might have an aesthetic which evoked children’s toys from a bygone era. The imagery on the exterior box is based on Coleraine town centre, focusing on the iconic town hall.
