Small Besom brush with velveteen binding. Larger life-size besoms were made from coarse heather and used for sweeping the kitchen floor. Usually found in a hole beside the fireplace. The besom man was a well-known character going round from village to village. The besom shaft was made of a straight length of hazel. Courtesy of Ballycastle Museum.
