Pedal Organ

This pedal organ came from a mission hall in County Donegal which has now closed. Pedal organs originated in the United States in the mid to late 19th century. They were introduced to Britain and Ireland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Church congregations typically sang their hymns along to the tune of the pedal organ. The volume of the organ could be increased by the organist using the organ’s two foot pedals. The pedal organ was replaced in many country churches by the modest pipe organ, and later, the electronic keyboard. Donated by Mr. C. Wilson.
