On Friday 7^th April 2023 the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Ivor Wallace, joined volunteers from Roe Valley Ancestral Researchers and staff from Museum Services for the reopening of Green Lane Museum.

Green Lane Museum at Roe Valley Country Park

The museum, located within the beautiful surroundings of Roe Valley Country Park, allows visitors the opportunity to step back in time and experience a flavour of a bygone age while exploring 19^th and 20^th century history relating to rural life in the Roe Valley, including farming, local trades and linen industries.

Causeway Coast and Glens Museum Services were delighted when Roe Valley Ancestral Researchers stepped forward to ensure Green Lane re-opened in 2023 after having been closed since 2019. Throughout the season, Roe Valley Ancestral Researchers’ volunteers have shared their vast knowledge of local history and ensured visitors to the museum have enjoyed a rich and rewarding experience.

Between April and September, the group welcomed over 4,000 visitors from across Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland, Europe, Canada and the United States of America. The museum also hosted visits from a wide range of groups including church and community groups, craft and vehicle clubs and senior citizens groups.

The full programme of activity delivered by Roe Valley Ancestral Researchers catered for all ages and included sewing, weaving, and blacksmithing demonstrations. In partnership with Museum Services, Betty Ferguson of Roe Valley Ancestral Researchers interviewed Danny O’Kane who was responsible for setting up Green Lane Museum in the mid-1980s, preserving Danny’s memories for future generations.
