Introducing ‘A World of Stories’

The  A World of Stories project looked into the 20th and 21st century experiences of those who have resettled in the Causeway Coast and Glens from around the world. Explored through both historical records and through the eyes of more recent arrivals, the programme and exhibition highlighted the varied backgrounds of our communities and the contributions they have made to our society.

The project, carried out over the course of 2022 and 2023, culminated in an exhibition programme in Coleraine Museum at Coleraine Town Hall from May-August 2023, together with an events programme which focused on different themes in order to engage with as wide an audience as possible.

A World of Stories aimed to give a platform for all migrant experiences, whether joyous and heartbreaking; please be aware that some people may find some of the stories upsetting.

The exhibition featured contributions from ‘Conflict textiles’, a collection of international textiles which focus on elements of conflict and human rights.

There was also a small accompanying exhibition, ‘Global Voices, Local Choices’, which showcased a partnership project with National Museums NI, the Northern Ireland Museums Council, and the African and Caribbean Support Organisation Northern Ireland and Causeway Multicultural Forum. Global Voices, Local Choices sought to bring diverse cultures and perspectives into Northern Irish local and national museums. The project has been shortlisted for the Museums Change Lives, Decolonising Museums Award (2023).
