This was identified by a visitor to the museum as being Mountmellick Embroidery which was originally introduced around 1825 by Johanne Carter in the town of Mountmellick, Queens County (Cork) Ireland. The style went into a decline until the 1880's when a Mrs Millner started an Industrial Association at Mountmellick with the aim of providing a source of income for distressed Irish gentlewomen. It then became popular with amateur embroideresses. Courtesy of Ballycastle Museum
